Thanksgiving: A Time to Give Thanks, even for your Braces

Thanks Giving at Newman Orthodontics

It’s Thanksgiving. We all have a lot to be Thankful for this year at Newman Orthodontics. What are some things you are thankful for? Did you mention your braces?

Here are some reasons why you should be thankful for them:

  • Straighter teeth mean a better smile and a better smile means greater confidence for you. We all know those people who smile close-lipped in photos. That won’t be you. If you consistently wear your retainer, you will have a beautiful smile that you will be proud to show off. Remember, confidence will get you far in life.
  • Braces today are much sleeker and more comfortable than the braces of years past. Plus, you can give your braces personality with pops of color.
  • Wearing braces is a healthy choice. By choosing to wear it now, it means less dental problems for you later, such as chipped and/or worn teeth caused by a bad bite or even increased cavities caused by food and increased bacteria buildup getting caught between teeth in a crowded mouth. Also, by not correcting your bite and overcrowded teeth, you are putting yourself at risk for gum disease. Further, malocclusion can cause jaw pain, and muscle and ligament strain.
  • Straighter and better aligned teeth are less likely to get injured during sports or accidental force to the mouth. Protruding teeth are more likely to get broken and straighter teeth can absorb impact better. This is especially important if you play any type of sport, of course, this assumes that you protect yourself by wearing a properly fitting mouth guard.

So this thanksgiving, give thanks for your health, your family and your friends. But don’t forget to give thanks to your braces. We wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!
