How To Deal With Halloween With Braces
October is National Orthodontics Month but it’s also one of our favorite holidays, Halloween. Here are some tips on how to keep your braces in tip-top condition this holiday season.
Let’s start with the good news. . .
Chocolate lovers rejoice. Plain old chocolate bars such as Hershey bars, Hershey Kisses, Kit Kats, Three Musketeers, M&Ms, Junior Mints, Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups, and York Peppermint Patties come out tops on our Halloween candy list. Remember, a good rule of thumb for chocolate is if it contains nuts, it’s best to skip it.
What’s the bad news?
You’ll have to say no to candy corn (an over-rated candy anyway if you ask us), Laffy Taffy, Gummy Bears, Starburst, Skittles, Jolly Ranchers, Tootsie Rolls, Twizzlers, and hard candies. Avoid hard or chewy candy entirely as they most likely to cause damage to your brackets and braces.
So how about donating your unwanted candies instead this year?
We are a proud participant of Operation Gratitude. We will send your extra sweets to a deployed soldier, along with a letter if you’d like. Collections continue until November 12th.
Tip: for a delicious Halloween treat, dip apple pieces in caramel. And, there’s always chocolate!
Happy Halloween from all of us at Newman Orthodontics!
